In collaboration with Aspex, Portsmouth and Fratton Big Local, I was commissioned to make a light work for the annual Festival of Light for St Mary's Church, Fratton. The socially engaged project, 'Speaking for the Community', funded by Arts Council England, included a series of workshops with local community groups to celebrate the diversity of languages spoken in the area; from Kurdish to Bengali and Chinese. This led to the production of 32 neon letters temporally installed for the festival on the outside of the church. It is hoped that the neon will be permanently sited in venues in and around Fratton in the future.
