Spiky Black
Spiky Black
Audio
2017

A site specific audio art work made in collaboration with Amanda Loomes for the rose garden at Chalkwell Park. Supported by Metal, hosted by Netpark and funded by Arts Council England. The work was inspired by a conversation with a park gardener who used to be a Punk. When asked what he would name a rose, he said "Spiky Black' to remind me of the studs done my jacket and my hair as it used to be'.
Over the period of a year, we took recordings of the rose growing industry in Norfolk, first person interviews and ambient sound and grafted it with clips of New Rose by The Damned and extracts of music from the Rose Garden's hey day in 1911 to make an album.
